Coach Gutierrez – Varsity Head Coach

Coach Gutierrez’s mission in leading Canyon’s Football program is to teach life skills and to do things right at all costs. His is a program built on commitment, brotherhood, and love. A program where everyone is connected, a program that teaches self-respect and respect for the game of football, while applying these principles to everyday life. A program that CREATES athletes, not one that depends on them. In addition to being a successful Coach, Mr. Gutierrez is an accomplished Special Education Instructor. Coach Gutierrez is a former Department Chair, Mentor Teacher, and William S. Hart USD Teacher of the Year recipient. He currently teaches Learning Strategies and Health. Coach Gutierrez has also taught Math, English, Psychology, Sociology, Science, and has been a district Administrative Intern.

When Coach Gutierrez is away from the field, he enjoys camping, reading, eating out, and spending time with his family. Coach Gutierrez has his own special fan club; wife Melissa whom he loves dearly and truly appreciates her exceptional support in his quest to guide Cowboy Football; daughter Lily, 22, a Canyon High graduate; son Anthony, 17, who currently plays on our very own Varsity Football squad; and our youngest Cowboy, Jon-Jon Gutierrez, who is currently 2 year old. Coach Gutierrez feels truly blessed and savors every moment he has the opportunity to represent Cowboy Football, the Canyon Country Community, and the Cowboy Family.

Coach Gutierrez’s football philosophy is, “It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.”

Coach Gutierrez is honored to be coaching here at Canyon High School. He is proud to have the support of the Cowboy Community and the City of Santa Clarita. He enthusiastically invites you to involve yourself in the pride, tradition, and electricity that occur on Friday night’s here at Canyon High School Football Stadium.
